Babydog, the rotund English bulldog and canine companion of newly elected Republican Senator Jim Justice, arrived at the U.S. Capitol Tuesday in her own personal puppy wagon. Video posted to X by Business Insider reporter Bryan Metzger shows the dog, a fabled fixture of state politics when Justice served as West Virginia’s governor, in a four-wheeled handcart lined with bright yellow tarp. Justice could be seen trailing behind in a mobility scooter, while a man who accompanied him pulled the dog’s cart. Babydog, 5, stole the show during last year’s Republican National Convention, as she sat on stage in an armchair while Justice, 73, addressed the crowd. The GOP politician reportedly travels with Babydog—his “60-pound brown watermelon”—nearly everywhere, and was known to bring her to government buildings in West Virginia. Justice said in November that Babydog would not make any appearances on the Senate floor, as he was aware of rules prohibiting pets from entering the upper chamber. As with many workplaces, it is not uncommon for canines to join their human companions in offices.
