Wave of Self-Immolations in Egypt

As a way to protest government.

A man died in Egypt Tuesday after setting himself on fire—the fourth such man to attempt to stage such a protest in recent days (the other three all survived). The man, Ahmed Hashem el-Sayed, was unemployed for a year; his brother committed suicide by setting himself on fire five years ago. Protesters in Mauritania and Algeria have also self-immolated recently, following the example of the Tunisian man whose self-immolation inspired the protests that toppled the governments.
