Surprise, surprise. The three candidates inciting the most media fervor are leading the polls. Among the Democratic mayoral candidates, Anthony Weiner and Christine Quinn are in front of the pack, while Eliot Spitzer is beating out his competition in the Democratic primary for comptroller. A new poll by Quinnipiac University shows the scandals that brought Weiner and Spitzer name recognition are doing more to help them than hurt them. And after those big names, the competitions' polling numbers drop off. The September 10 primary requires a candidate to pull in 40 percent of the vote to avoid a runoff; otherwise, the two top opponents will face each other on October 1.
