Inner-Party Dissent

West Virginia Dems Skeptical of Obama

Last month, Joe Manchin said he wasn’t sure who he would vote for in the presidential election. The Democratic senator from West Virginia shocked few with this statement, given his proclivity toward right-wing policy despite his membership in the Democratic Party. But Manchin isn’t the only West Virginia Democrat to consider voting outside the party. Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin said Wednesday that his vote is also undecided. “President Obama has apparently made it his mission to drive the backbone of West Virginia’s economy, coal and the energy industry, out of business,” he said. “That will not only hurt thousands of West Virginia families, it will destroy the economic fabric of our state.”
