In 2013 I hung up my g-string. No more wild on-camera orgies or intimate scenes with people I'd only just met. I officially retired from a decade-long career in porn. While I said my goodbyes, others were busy painting the town red.
So, if you think your 2013 was wild, these adult stars may change your mind. I chatted with a few porn stars who reflected on some of their wildest and fondest memories of the year and what they’re looking forward to in 2014 (hint: the outbreak controversy is far from over).
Ron Jeremy, legendary porn star
Most outlandish moment of 2013:"I had open heart surgery for the first time in my life, I had an aortic dissection. The worst is over."
In 2014 I'd like to see:"A very healthy aorta. But in terms of porn, it's having a lot of problems right now. I feel sorry for all of my friends going out of the business. Changes are fine but I like the status quo. I'm a big fan of the status quo."
Gauge, retired star who returned in 2013
Most outlandish moment of 2013:"Besides returning to porn this year, I got a job at the hospital and my boss recognized me. It was weird. He brought me cookies his wife made and he propositions me while I'm eating one. All these thoughts start going through my head. He'd just come out of the bathroom and I remember thinking to myself okay this son-of-a-bitch just propositioned me while I'm eating a cookie his wife made with her own hands.”
In 2014 I'd like to see: "The industry start testing for herpes."
Tanya Tate, voted 2013 XBIZ's MILF of the Year
Most outlandish moment of 2013:"I was on Date My Porn Star. It's a UK documentary that flies fans over to L.A. to meet their favorite porn stars and one of the fans was mine. He came to set and watched me do a pretend mom and daughter girl/girl scene. To outside people that must be crazy."
In 2014 I'd like to see:"The government spend money on other things and let us self-regulate. Give performers a choice to use a condom or not use a condom. They're poking their nose into a community that is already working."
Barrett Blade, inducted into NightMoves 2013 Hall of Fame:
Most outlandish moment of 2013:"When the cops raided my house. However we were doing everything legally so basically it was a waste of the tax payers money."
In 2014 I'd like to see:"The industry stand by the condom law and hopefully the government will focus on more important issues rather than putting tax money into governing us. We have real issues out there and consenting adults having sex shouldn't be one of them."
Dana Vespoli, voted NightMoves 2013 Best Director of a Non-Parody:
Most outlandish moment of 2013:"Shooting Steve Holmes having public, anal sex with Sexi Susi in Berlin. I wasn't the one getting fucked, but I was crazy enough to shoot it, and it was glorious."
In 2014 I'd like to see:"An end to piracy, and I'd like to see Dana DeArmond win female performer of the year because she is amazing."
Trina Michaels, nominated for XBIZ's 2013 Crossover Star of the Year:
Most outlandish moment of 2013:"Getting my ass kicked in the ring by Shelly Martinez at RCW. Or being super-kicked in the face by Nick Jackson of the Young Bucks. Or being on stage with Mick Foley at his comedy show. But perhaps the craziest thing that happened to me in 2013 was being power-bombed by Matt freakin' Hardy!"
In 2014 I'd like to see: "More talent taking the business seriously. There's been a surge of new talent and with that a dramatic increase in positive test results. Since I got in the business in 2004, there was maybe one HIV scare. In the last two years, I could count on both hands the stories I've read. We know the risks getting into the biz but still, we can take steps to minimize spreading disease to our fellow co-workers in a surprisingly small community of people."
Misty Stone, nominated for AVN's 2013 Female Performer of the Year:
Most outlandish moment of 2013:"Co-hosting two awards programs this year, and being in the popular video game Grand Theft Auto 5.
In 2014 I'd like to see:"Us moving to secure a more safer working environment to perform in, and that's a good thing. I'd just like to be working more, and making more fabulous new releases."
Adrianna Luna, nominated for AVN and XBIZ’s 2013 Best New Starlet:
Most outlandish moment of 2013:"Shooting a movie for Wicked pictures. It was a movie about MMA so I was able to showcase my skills. Though I think the craziest thing to happen this year are all of the HIV cases that have come up. It was the highest number of cases I've ever seen since I've been in. It's unfortunate how the media portrays that. They choose powerful words like 'outbreak' to describe what's going on when that isn't the case."
In 2014 I'd like to see:"Some sort of regulation in regards to Measure B. It's the elephant in the room, everyone knows it's there but no one enforces it. Certain companies do, and we have to shoot far away but other companies are still doing what they have always done every day."
