Designer Jason Wu recently took New York magazine into his quaint, monochromatic Midtown apartment where the color gray reigns supreme. The sheets, wallpaper, and sectional sofa in his sparsely furnished digs are all the same shade, but his place has sporadic bits of flair—a bright red Eames chair, for instance—that reflect his classic ensembles. The golden boy, who began reading fashion magazines when he was nine, recounts Inauguration Night madness—his Dominos pizza was being delivered just as he saw Michelle Obama glide onto the stage in his ivory silk organza gown, which set off his media firestorm on CNN, the Today show, and Good Morning America. When he’s not designing for the First Lady, Wu cooks and bakes for his friends. How very old school.
