Where Is Santa Claus? How to Track His Journey Live on NORAD
For last 60 years, children have been able to track Santa’s ‘location’ via NORAD satellites—here’s how you can watch his progress live.
Since 1955, on every Christmas Eve, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has produced an annual entertainment program called "NORAD Tracks Santa."
Prior to the digital age, users would phone into a hotline to find out where Santa Claus purports to be along his journey delivering presents to children around the world. Originally, the hotline developed because of a misprinted phone number in a Colorado-based Sears ad. Locals phoned into the local defense command base, and the on-duty servicemen were instructed to give callers the "location" of Santa. NORAD made it an official tradition shortly thereafter.
In the last few years, the aerospace defense program has partnered with corporate sponsors to deliver the "Santa Cam" in the form of an interactive live map.
In order to watch Santa's progress, users can visit NORADSanta.org and use the various features to find out where Old Saint Nick was last seen or when he will visit their town.
