Why the Dems Need Lieberman

After Joe Lieberman screwed them on a public option and Medicare buy-in for health care, many Democrats are clamoring to oust him from the caucus. But they may want to get used to Joe’s face: Talking Points Memo points out that Lieberman is a major player on both climate-change legislation and same-sex benefits. According to TPM, White House officials are regularly meeting with Lieberman on climate change and he has been coordinating an investigation into the Fort Hood shooting with the Obama administration. Lieberman has been meeting with Senators John Kerry and Lindsey Graham five times a week to hammer out climate-change legislation, and a congressional aide describes his position as “progressive.”
