Sue Hodgkinson, the wife of the suspected gunman who targeted Republican lawmakers during a baseball practice Wednesday in Virginia, spoke publicly Thursday evening, tearfully explaining to reporters, “I can’t believe he did this.” Hodgkinson, standing outside the couple’s home in Belleville, Illinois, said her husband, James T. Hodgkinson, had told her he was going to Washington, D.C. to “work on taxes.” Instead, the 66-year-old made his way to Alexandria and attacked the congressmen and their security detail, critically injuring GOP Rep. Steve Scalise. “I had no idea this was going to happen and I don’t know what to say about it,” said Hodgkinson. “I can’t wrap my head around it. I’m sorry he did this.”
