WNYC Suspends Longtime Hosts Leonard Lopate and Jonathan Schwartz for ‘Inappropriate Conduct’

WNYC announced Wednesday that longtime hosts Leonard Lopate and Jonathan Schwartz have been placed on immediate leave pending an investigation into unspecified “accusations of inappropriate conduct.” New York Public Radio CEO Laura Walker said the station “takes these kinds of allegations very seriously and is reviewing these matters promptly,” adding that “NYPR is committed to taking all appropriate steps to ensure a respectful, equitable, inclusive and harassment-free workplace for everyone.” The announcement comes after several woman accused John Hockenberry, another former WNYC personality who hosted The Takeaway, of sexual harassment.
