A woman in Brazil was duped by a scammer into believing she was in a relationship with none other than Elon Musk. The 69-year-old, from Formosa, just outside the capital of Brasilia, met the swindler online and, believing it was the tech mogul, fell head over heels for him. The case, classified by cops as “love fraud‚” saw the victim take out almost $27,000 in loans to give to ‘Musk’ after hours-long daily chats. She also considered selling her $86,000 home to give the crook cash, before her son saw the loved-up text messages on her phone and intervened. “Meeting you was the highlight of my life,” came one of many romantic messages designed to lure her in. The fraudster asked for money to buy jewelry and flowers for the woman, and even demanded cash to refuel “his aircraft.” Things took a sinister turn when they even urged the woman to cut her hand as part of a blood pact, cops said. Police added that the culprit remains unknown, and that they are likely part of a larger crime organization.
