A woman who has been accused of stealing a baby from a New York hospital in 1987 and then raising the child as her own was indicted on federal kidnapping charges Thursday. Ann Pettway has admitted to taking Carlina Renae White, now 23, from a Harlem hospital, and she turned herself in to the FBI last month. White was reunited with her birth family in January, after being suspicious that Pettway could not produce a birth certificate. She had been taken to the hospital when she was only 19 days old for having a high fever, when Pettway allegedly snatched her. Pettway faces 20 years to life in prison if she is convicted.
