After soaking up relentless pressure from Spain, Switzerland broke the deadlock when Gelson Fernandes bundled the ball into the net in the 52nd minute. The Swiss defended with their lives for the next 40 minutes to seal their first win in 18 meetings with Spain. In the earlier game, Chile dominated Honduras, but only won 1-0.
