Whether sprayed on or the result of too many hours in the sun, stars are looking crispier than usual. From Lindsay Lohan to Mickey Rourke, view our gallery of sun-kissed horrors.

Known for her posh style and put-together appearance, this former girl group member would be wise to spend less time outside watching her dear hubby kick the ball around (or lather on less orange-tinted lotion).

When he stepped into the limelight in 2006’s tween favorite High School Musical, there was something unearthly pretty about the teen heartthrob. It could have been the perfectly kempt shag hairdo, the pinkish pouting lips, or perhaps the golden tint to his skin. Yet in the sequel to the Disney Channel original, Efron’s character works at a summer camp—so his once-appropriate flush was transformed into a pumpkiny glow, apparently from all the sun exposure. There’s even a blog asking Efron to quit the tanning beds once and for all, appropriately titled, “Zac Efron Please Stop Tanning.”

This fashion-forward lady usually scores big points for her innovative outfits and risky hair colors. But this pairing of purple lips and gray tendrils, almost makes her spray tan look greenish orange.

The reigning queen of MySpace-style self-portraits, this reality TV star tweeted a photo of herself after a spray tan, showing off her oily brown skin and miles of cleavage. Referencing the infamous, Tan Mom, she wrote, “The tannerexic mom has some serious competition!!! LOL”

Lindsay Lohan loves tanning so much, she launched her own tanning lotion—Sevin Nyne, “a play on her favorite numbers.” She has said that "a gorgeous golden glow is the ultimate beauty accessory."

The host took his love of tanning to a new level—he was once linked to one of the stars of Sunset Tan, Holly Huddleston. Too bad the romance didn’t work out—just think of what their children would look like. The preternaturally glowing 35-year-old is now rumored to be dating young, blond, and bronzed Julianne Hough.

One dermatologist has actually recommended a tanning intervention for the fake-hued crew. But even a federal tax on tanning won’t stop Snooki from going bronze, although now she sprays it on. Her outrage at President Obama for the new 10 percent tanning tax inspired her to get political, possibly for the first time. “McCain would never put a 10 percent tax on tanning because he’s pale and he’d probably want to be tan,” said Snooki. McCain responded to the bright orange star on Twitter: "@Sn00ki u r right, I would never tax your tanning bed!" he tweeted recently. "Pres Obama's tax/spend policy is quite The Situation. but I do rec wearing sunscreen!"

The tower-building millionaire (or is it still billionaire?) is said to be wooing similarly fake-tanned Lindsay Lohan for the next season of Celebrity Apprentice. Even if the show films in the dead of winter, Trump will almost certainly look like he just spent some time beachside. He sports his unnatural shade (and signature hairstyle) year-round.

Although he’s most famous for his days at Baywatch, David Hasselhoff has had to resort to other methods for that beach-ready look—he was seen milling around outside an L.A. tanning salon. But there’s a downside to his tanning: The actor reportedly enraged producers of America’s Got Talent after he went to a tanning salon… in between takes of the show. “When he came back on set he was literally orange,” said fellow judge Sharon Osbourne.

In New York, Kelly might be a real housewife, but her tan looks far from it. Costar Simon van Kempen’s friends on the Purse Blog call her “Klether.” Mean girl of the season, Jill Zarin, was slightly kinder, saying “She's tan, she's very tan. I think she probably self-tans. I self-tan, so I'm not throwing stones at that glass house.”

Pop powerhouse Christina Aguilera has gone through many looks, including an unfortunate obsession with too-tan skin. Her husband Jordan Bratman reportedly thinks she’s more beautiful au naturel.

After appearing ridiculously tan in a promo for Saturday Night Mania, Hogan has long been considered a celebrity tan disaster. His devotion to tanning was revealed in 2009, when he sued his soon-to-be ex-wife over a number of items, including a tanning bed. Although, in 2008, he was caught in some embarrassing photos shot at the beach with his daughter, so maybe that’s why he prefers his tanning indoors.

Tara Reid has long been a warning for “ tanorexia,” and even a botched plastic surgery didn’t stop her from wearing a bikini. Reid reportedly said she loves having a tanned stomach—so that's why she’s going to keep wearing her itsy bitsy swimsuits. Aside from the bikini addiction, her spray-tan lines even showed when she posed on the cover of Playboy. Now that’s devotion.

Although Tom Jones has been praised for growing old gracefully, the “gracefully” might be due in part to his love of the deep-fried look. The singer was caught by a London tabloid tanning during a lunch break, reportedly so he would look good on a red carpet later that night. Mission accomplished.

Six years ago, the Terminator signed a bill outlawing California minors (or at least those under 14 years of age) from visiting tanning salons. Leading by example is not his forte: The California governor remains as glistening and bronzed as his Conan the Barbarian days.

Paris Hilton’s hallmark catchphrase is “that’s hot.” And the tanning bed has, in the past, been a little too hot for the heiress, who has a history of making red carpets appear more orange than they actually are.

The 78-year-old designer is so fabulous he can get away with anything—or, nearly anything. It remains a mystery if his amber hue comes from the Mediterranean sun or a bottle from the local drugstore.

Mickey Rourke’s comeback in The Wrestler reminded everyone not only of his range as an actor, but also just how different he looks from decades ago—his once-dreamy face traded in for a decidedly leathery look. TMZ caught him entering a tanning salon just before the 2009 Oscars. But at least he had a healthy glow on the red carpet, right?

Of the Florida Senate race between Republican Charlie Crist and fellow GOP member Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio, Daily Show funnyman Jon Stewart remarked, “That is a handsome primary,” likening it to a contest between Mad Men’s John Slattery and Mario Lopez. Curiously, Stewart forgot to mention the contrast between Crist’s snow white hair and his skin, which is a remarkable burnt-orange hue, even for the Sunshine State.

Desperate Housewives star and spray-tan enthusiast Eva Longoria’s No. 1 rule is “no tan lines.” However, the tabloids have chronicled the pint-size star opening herself up to the risk of those pesky tan lines by wearing a bikini while on vacation with her husband Tony Parker.
