Writers Guild Awards Hail Inception

Inception and the The Social Network went home Saturday night with the biggest Writers Guild Awards: best original screenplay and best adapted screenplay, respectively. The awards were received by Inception’s Christopher Nolan and The Social Network’s Aaron Sorkin at simultaneous ceremonies at Los Angeles' Renaissance Hollywood Hotel and New York City's AXA Equitable Center. Other contenders were Darren Aronofsky's psychological thriller Black Swan and boxing drama The Fighter. Though The King's Speech cleaned up at the Golden Globes and the Producers Guild Awards, it wasn’t eligible for a WGA, according to the writing union's contract guidelines. In other categories, Inside Job, the story of 2008's economic meltdown, won best documentary screenplay, while the writers of AMC's Mad Men won best drama and those for ABC's Modern Family won best comedy series.
