Wyclef's Charity Stiffs Refugee Camps

If Wyclef Jean’s management of his charity, Yele Haiti, is any indication of his ability to govern, Haitians better start flocking to his opponents. At least five of the several refugee camps that Yele Haiti claims on its website to be helping say they have received no aid from the charitable organization—“not even a cookie,” one camp leader complains. Other camps complain the group’s donations have been stingy, like a television that broke halfway through the World Cup; the charity, meanwhile, is housed in a $15,000-a-month property that includes two empty model homes for the homeless. Jean dismisses the camp leaders’ complaints as “hearsay” and complains about the new scrutiny “at a time when I am trying to make a genuine difference.”
