Yahoo confirmed Thursday that they experienced a “massive data breach” at the hands of what was most likely a “state-sponsored actors” in late 2014. According to the company, “The account information may have included names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, hashed passwords... and, in some cases, encrypted or unencrypted security questions and answers. The ongoing investigation suggests that stolen information did not include unprotected passwords, payment card data, or bank account information.” Yahoo dealt with a breach that affected 200 million user accounts earlier this summer. News of the breach comes as Yahoo finalizes its $4.8 billion deal with Verizon.
