A smear of pine tar just cost Yankees player Miguel Pineda 10 games. The starter was suspended after admitting to using pine tar while pitching in Wednesday's game against the Boston Red Sox. Red Sox manager asked the umpire to check Pineda for the substance, which was found smeared on his neck. "He used poor judgment tonight,'' the team manager said. "He feels like he let his teammates down.'' According to Major League Baseball rules, a pitcher cannot "apply a foreign substance of any kind to the ball."
