The New York Yankees are set to acquire 2017 National League MVP Giancarlo Stanton from the Miami Marlins, according to multiple news reports. A source cited by ESPN on Saturday said Yankees infielder Starlin Castro would join the Marlins as part of the deal, which is not yet official. The Marlins would also receive Yankees prospects Jorge Guzman and Jose Devers. Stanton currently has a no-trade clause in his 13-year contract, though he has previously said the Yankees are a team he’d waive that clause for. Stanton still has to agree to the terms of the deal and pass a physical. The sixth player to claim the MVP award while playing for a losing team, Stanton is seen as a major win for the Yankees. He set a single-season home run record for the Marlins this past season, with 59 home runs.
