Young Family of Five Shot Dead in Maine

TRAGIC

Youngest was 4.

A family of five was found shot to death in their apartment in Saco, Maine, on Sunday. A gun was discovered near one of the bodies, and police are reporting that “no one outside of the family was responsible for the deaths.” The parents are believed to have been in their thirties. Of the three children who were also found dead in the apparent murder-suicide, the youngest was just 4 years old. The father was a maintenance worker for the apartment building and was described by neighbors as friendly. “He’d ask how your day was going. He was really nice,” said Kristi Harkins, one of the building’s residents. Heather Mason, a neighbor who babysat the children, said, “I still don’t want to believe it. I love those children like they were my own.” Authorities will perform autopsies. The identities of the family members have not yet been released.
