Young Heirs Spread the Wealth

For a generation of progressive-minded heirs, the question of what to do with an inheritance can weigh heavily, though it’s a problem that may not be met with too much sympathy from the mere middle class! “Those of us with wealth and progressive values resist the privilege and actually deny it because of this inequality that exists in society,” says one heir now working as a nonprofit administrator. In response, the Council on Foundations recently started a Next Generation task force as a way to reach out to budding philanthropists unsure of what their societal role should be—many of whom buck their elders by supporting heavy estate taxes as an equalizing economic force.
