The author of Prep and American Wife is writing a five-part fiction piece for Slate entitled All Along, This Was What Was Supposed to Happen. In the novel, Philadelphia-dwelling Patrice is accompanying her 77-year-old aunt to Washington D.C. for the January 20 festivities—family tensions, and maybe a few tears, are sure to ensue. The series concludes Tuesday.
