Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa has overtaken a U.S. chicken-nugget-loving teen with the most retweeted tweet of all time. In May 2017, Carter Wilkinson was challenged by Wendy’s to get 18 million retweets for a year of free chicken nuggets—he managed a record 3.5 million retweets, and was granted his year’s supply by the fast-food chain. However, that record has been smashed by Maezawa—best known in the West as the first private passenger due to be flown around the moon by Elon Musk’s SpaceX—who promised to share 100m yen ($925,000) between 100 randomly selected people who shared his tweet. Maezawa’s tweet, dated Jan. 5, has now been shared more than four million times. Maezawa came to fame as the drummer in punk band Switch Style, but made his $3 billion fortune as the founder of Japanese online clothes store Zozo. His tweet was reportedly to celebrate the site making 10 billion yen in sales over the holiday period.
