Zach Johnson Wins British Open

Zach Johnson of the U.S. won the 144th British Open after a nail-biting four-hole playoff. The Iowa native took the Claret Jug at St. Andrews in Scotland, following a three-way tie that forced the extra holes, which he finished at 1-under. Earlier in the day, Jordan Spieth blew his chance to become the first player in the modern era to win a single-season Grand Slam of golf’s majors. He’d already won the Masters and the U.S. Open, and was attempting to become the first player since 1953 to take all three titles.
