Neeson knocks off “Mall Cop.”

Super Bowl weekend, a notoriously tough time for the box office, turned out to be disappointing one for A-lister Renee Zellweger, whose romantic comedy New in Town made its debut with a meager $6.8 million in box office earnings, her second weakest opening ever. Critically panned Liam Neeson thriller Taken took the No. 1 slot, disproving conventional wisdom on the Super Bowl weekend fates of male-driven action flicks. Close behind Taken was Paul Blart: Mall Cop, a surprise hit that may soon pass the $100 million mark.
