New Girl star Zooey Deschanel looked more uncomfortable than adorkable on the pink carpet at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday. From Robert De Niro’s gnarly grimace to Kristen Stewart’s perpetual frown, check out stars whose turns on the red carpet raised the question: What’s up with you?

While on the pink carpet at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday, New Girl star Zooey Deschanel wore—and looked—a little blue. Her usually bright smile was barely on display, and photos of her and co-presenter Selena Gomez led some to notice more than a few weird changes in the starlet’s face and demeanor. Perhaps she was simply bummed about not winning any awards that night?

Back in February, the former South African Olympic swimmer attended the Oscars with husband, Prince Albert. On the red carpet, Princess Charlene made it obvious that she was feeling desolate as she shed tears in front of the cameras. As she made a point of reminding us, it was the 30th anniversary of the death of the woman who would be her mother-in-law, Princess Grace, a.k.a. Grace Kelly.

Not even a bright-red gown could liven up Twilight star and perpetual frowner Kristen Stewart. The actress arrived at the Cannes Film Festival in May and proudly showed off her trusty desolation/disinterest facial concoction for the cameras.

Triple-threat actor, director and producer Robert De Niro seemed as if he were about to become a physical threat to photographers at the Ghetto Film School Annual Benefit Gala, where he threw scowls at the crowd—even while holding hands with his wife, Grace Hightower.

Though she isn’t exactly known for her sunny smiles, fashion icon Victoria Beckham gave cameras a particularly bored face at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in February. In a conversation with Interview magazine, the mother of four admitted, “I’m not miserable. I just choose not to smile” but made sure to add, “'Yes, I created this persona and I'm very different from that.”

Decked out in sequins and surrounded by feathered, satin, and brightly-colored gowns at this year’s Met Gala, Shame star Carey Mulligan, you would think, would have had enough to smile about. Instead, she pursed her lips and looked somewhat annoyed.

Sporting a pin-straight hairdo, Mary-Kate Olsen looked ready for a funeral at this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards.

Super stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe also dampened the atmosphere at the CFDA awards this year, with a no-skin-showing black gown and no-smiles-allowed expression.

There apparently wasn’t a joyful soul around at the Los Angeles premiere of Dark Shadows. The film’s stars, Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer, as well as director Tim Burton and producer Graham King, gave off dark vibes themselves.

Eminem, a.k.a. Slim Shady, looked straight-up sad at the Los Angeles premiere of 8 Mile in 2002. Though we can’t imagine why—the rapper took home an Oscar for Best Original Song for the single, Lose Yourself, from the movie’s soundtrack.

Who could forget the 3-year-old blonde “frowning flower girl”? While the whole world cheered as Prince William and Catherine Duchess of Cambridge shared a kiss on their wedding day, this little miss, also Prince William’s goddaughter, covered her ears and let the world see just how annoyed she was at all the fuss.
