A 10-year-old Wisconsin girl was hit with homicide charges on Monday in connection with the death of an infant at a daycare center last week. Prosecutors say the girl, who has not been named, dropped a 6-month-old baby boy at a daycare center run out of her foster parent’s home near Chippewa Falls. Once the baby began to cry, the girl allegedly panicked and stomped on his head. “She panicked, didn’t know what to do and didn’t want to get into trouble,” Chippewa County District Attorney Wade Newell said at the girl’s bond hearing on Monday, according to local news station KSTP-TV. The boy was taken to a hospital but later died of his injuries. State authorities are now investigating the daycare center where the incident occurred. The girl reportedly sobbed on Monday as she went before a judge, who informed her that she would be facing the charges in adult court. Wisconsin law allows for those who are 10 years of age or older to be tried as an adult in cases of first-degree intentional homicide.
