As The Daily Beast chronicled the unhealthiest restaurant dishes this year, a larger question emerged. From 7400 calories at Applebees to Uno’s 8,600-calorie pizza feast, these full meals can kill.
Walk into your favorite national chain restaurant and you may very well hear the following: Can we offer you a side of macaroni and cheese? Maybe a bowl of tortilla soup to go with your steak, or some bacon-cheddar potato wedges to start? How about a piece of chocolate pie and our tall, cold vanilla milkshake wash it all down?
If it’s not obvious by now, we’re talking about some heavy-hitting meals. So, who’s ready for an 8,000 calorie dinner? The three-course meal that tops this list at more than four times the daily recommended caloric intake. And not a single meal bottoms out at less than 3,000 calories.
For this ranking, we took the most caloric appetizer, entrée and dessert on every national restaurant chain’s regular menu, and then added the most caloric side dish and drink. While the rankings were just based on calories, we also listed the generally astronomic totals for carbs, saturated fat and sodium. So chow down, if you dare, and be sure to leave room for dessert.
