Apple Inc. removed Alex Jones’ Infowars website from its App Store late Friday and permanently banned the conspiracy theory website from its platform. The company had already removed the majority of Jones’ work from iTunes and its podcast apps last month but had stopped short of completely giving Infowars the boot. On Friday, however, the company said it had removed five more Infowars-linked apps and permanently banished Jones’ work. An Apple spokeswoman cited by The Wall Street Journal said the apps violated guidelines prohibiting content that is “offensive, insensitive, upsetting…or in exceptionally poor taste.” The move came shortly after Twitter permanently banned both Jones and Infowars from its platform. Facing a growing backlash, Jones has also been removed by Facebook and YouTube in recent weeks.
