Alissa Quart is the author of Thoughts and Prayers. She is a poet and a nonfiction writer. She is the executive director of the Economic Hardship Reporting Project. Her first poetry book is Monetized (Miami University Press, 2015). Her poems have appeared in Granta, the London Review of Books, The Nation, NPR, Fence, Columbia Journalism Review, The Offing, and the Poetry Society of America, among others. She writes regularly for The Guardian, The New York Times, and many other publications. Her four nonfiction books are Squeezed: Why Our Families Can’t Afford America (Ecco/HarperCollins), Republic of Outsiders (New Press), Hothouse Kids (Penguin Press), and Branded (Basic Books).
