British ISIS Bride Shamima Begum and Baby Removed From Syrian Refugee Camp After Threats
GONE GIRL
British-born ISIS bride Shamima Begum and her newborn baby were removed from the Al-Hol refugee camp in northern Syria amid new concerns for the safety of her and her baby. Begum left the U.K. in 2015 with two school friends to join ISIS, but requested to return home last month after giving birth to a baby boy inside the camp. British Home Secretary Sajid Javid instead revoked her citizenship, leaving her stateless. Begum lawyer Tasnime Akunjee said in a statement, “I can confirm that it is our understanding that Shamima has been moved from Al-Hol due to safety concerns around her and her baby. We further understand that indeed she and her child had been threatened by others at the Al-Hol camp.” Begum’s story came to light after a journalist who discovered her in the refugee camp reported that she had no regrets about joining the terrorist group. She later apologized and expressed remorse for her earlier words.
