IT’S THE ECONOMY, STUPID

CNN Data Guru Says Key Group Has Turned on Trump

President Donald Trump is “underwater” with millennials, according to CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten.

Trump was previously on “the plus side of the ledger” among voters aged 30 to 44, Enten said on CNN’s News Central on Thursday. But over the past year, his net approval rating has plummeted from +5 to -36.

“He’s more underwater than the New York Yankees’ favorability in the Bronx right now,” Enten quipped.

Enten said the shift is because of the economy, which Trump is getting “absolutely crushed” on.

In 2024, he had a net approval rating of +36 for his handling of the economy. Now, that number has fallen to -37.

“The reason he did so well with millennials back in 2024 was because they looked back at the economy during the Trump years and gave it two thumbs up,” Enten said. “But now the Siskel and Ebert is two thumbs down, moving away from the president of the United States on the key issue of the day, the economy.”

The data also shows millennials favoring the Democrats by 22 points.

“This idea that millennials are moving into the Republican camp, they may have been back in 2024, but if you look at it right now in 2026, they are returning to the Democratic fold,” Enten said.

The polling looks grim for Republicans ahead of November’s midterms, with Democrats currently leading in several key races.

And, according to a new Gallup poll on party affiliation, more Americans identify as Democrats than at any point since 2009.

The president is currently touring deep-red and Republican-leaning states to shore up his base ahead of the midterms.

But a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that, among voters enthusiastic about November’s elections, opposition to Trump is a more powerful motivator than support for him.

Sixty-two percent said they were excited to vote against him, compared to 36 percent who said they were eager to support him.
