Eleven States Sue Obama Admin Over Transgender Bathroom Rules
Texas leads charge against federal rules on transgender bathroom laws.

Eleven states plan to sue the Obama administration over its recent directive mandating transgender access in public schools to bathrooms that correspond with their identified gender. The new rule was announced by the White House in response to a law enacted in North Carolina which said transgender individuals must use the public bathroom matching the gender listed on their birth certificate. The plaintiffs in the lawsuit include Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wisconsin, in addition to Maine Gov. Paul LePage and the Arizona Department of Education.
The lawsuit alleges that the Obama administration "conspired to turn workplaces and educational settings across the country into laboratories for a massive social experiment, flouting the democratic process, and running roughshod over common sense policies protecting children and basic privacy rights."
