HELLO, GEN Z

According to her campaign manager, Harris joined TikTok to reach more voters.

Vice President Kamala Harris has joined TikTok. “Well, I’ve heard that recently I’ve been on the For You Page, so I thought I’d get on here myself,” Harris said in her first video on the platform Thursday. As for why Harris wanted to join the Gen Z-dominated platform, her campaign manager, Rob Flaherty, said it was to reach voters. “Our job as a campaign is to break through the noise and make sure we’re talking to voters wherever they are — TikTok is one of those landscapes, and we’re leaving no stone unturned," Flaherty told People. Flaherty added that with this account, Harris can “engage with a key constituency” in an “authentic” way. While Harris has only been on the platform for a day, memes of her have been going viral for weeks. Her reference to a coconut tree during a 2023 White House event has been used as a sound for countless videos and now Harris has been brat-ified by Charli XCX fans.
