Nearly 100 measles cases were reported in the last week alone, according to CDC figures cited Monday by USA Today. The CDC reported that the number of cases jumped from 387 to 465 in the first week of April, and that the disease has spread to 19 states. Even before last week, the number of cases in 2019 had already surpassed the number of cases in all but one year since 2000. Fueled by a rise in anti-vaccine sentiment that’s caused 17 outbreaks across the nation, America is on track to surpass the current record: 667 cases in 2014. Three outbreaks in Orthodox Jewish communities in New York and New Jersey have led to many of the cases.
