Sometimes, you must go back to the past to change your future.

Sony just unveiled the first trailer for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, a sweeping romantic fantasy film that follows two strangers, Sarah (Margot Robbie) and David (Colin Farrell), whose lives become intertwined after a mysterious car navigation program sends them back into the past, where they must confront their biggest regrets before returning to the present.

“Are you going to tell me what’s going on?” Sarah asks David in the trailer as they watch the sunrise from the top of a lookout tower.

“I don’t know,” he responds. “But I think I’ve been here before.”

Directed by Kogonada, known for his work on Apple TV+’s Pachinko and the sci-fi drama After Yang, the film also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Hamish Linklater, Lily Rabe, and Kevin Kline.

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey marks Robbie’s first time in front of the camera since Barbie, the 2023-billion-dollar blockbuster hit about Mattel’s iconic doll line.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Robbie shared how she felt returning to work after taking one of the longest breaks in her career.

“I thought it would be more scary to be walking onto the Big Bold set on day one, but it wasn’t,” Robbie said. “Everything about this film was immediately comfortable.”

Farrell expressed a similar sentiment, explaining how refreshing it was to go from filming HBO’s The Penguin, a gritty crime drama, to the softer romance story in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.

“As amazing as it was to work on The Penguin, that story was all about trauma and its various articulations and calcifications. This film is all about letting go of trauma—moving past it,” he said.

Set to hit theatres on Sept. 19, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey will hopefully be a love story for the ages.
