Seth Meyers zeroed in Wednesday night on President Donald Trump’s “obsession” with the U.S.-Mexico border, including his declaration that instead of “laws” America has something called “catch and release.”
“That’s right, it’s called ‘catch and release,’” Meyers said. “Or as Trump used to call it: marriage.”
“I don’t know how to tell you this, but it’s time for release,” the Late Night host added, imitating Trump.
In reality, Meyers went on to say, immigration enforcement has “massively ramped up” under the Trump administration. But now, since he has been unable to get funding for his wall, the president has ordered the National Guard to patrol the border in its place.
“Oh great, another thing for General Mattis’ to-do list,” Meyers said. “He’s already planning your dumb military parade, now you want him to guard the border.”
“Why don’t you just combine the two and have the parade along the Mexican border?” the host suggested. “I mean, think about it, have you ever tried to cross the street during a parade? Immigrants would just walk up to the border and be like, ‘Aw man, this is today?’”
