“Well, it’s another Monday and that means once again the president of the United States had a quiet and normal weekend full of hard work and sober reflection and everyone slept well and woke up refreshed and optimistic,” Seth Meyers said on his show Monday night, “and I’m just kidding, his brain is Silly Putty and we’re all doomed.”
After running down just some of the things President Trump ranted about online over the weekend, the Late Night host said, “Jesus, his tweets would make more sense if they were scribbled on the wall of a psych ward.”
Instead of “addressing the rising threat of white nationalism” in the wake of the Christchurch mosque shootings that left 50 Muslims dead, Meyers noted that Trump spent a good portion of his “deranged Twitter bender” defending Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, who was suspended this weekend by the network for making Islamophobic comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN).
“The only thing worse than saying something that offensive is saying it that loud,” Meyers said of Pirro. “You know when you say something bigoted, you’re supposed to whisper in private, right?” Pulling out a megaphone, he said Pirro’s style is to say, “You know who I don’t like? MUSLIMS!”
Earlier in the segment, Meyers also reserved some outrage for Trump’s tweet against a rerun of Saturday Night Live.
“You watch more SNL than Lorne Michaels, and that’s not a joke” he said of his boss. “I’ve been next to Lorne when a sketch is bombing and that man straight-up leaves the room.”
