‘SNL’ Host Takes Brutal Shot at MAGA-Friendly Controversy
Inde Navarrette did not appear to appreciate Shane Gillis’ SNL monologue.
Saturday Night Live host Inde Navarrette has included a sharp dig at the show’s previous host, Shane Gillis, in her monologue.
Gillis sparked outrage earlier this month when he complained about women’s gym outfits in his own monologue. He joked that women at the gym “dress like wh---s now.”
Navarrette responded by mentioning in her own monologue that she’s been cast as the superhero Rogue in the new X-Men movie.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m going to be in a Marvel movie,” she said. “And I know it’s really important for Marvel that you get really fit, so I’ve been working out a lot.”

She continued, to major laughs and applause, “So every morning I put on my little wh--- outfit and I hit the gym.”

Gillis’ joke drew sly criticism from former SNL cast member Ego Nwodim, who posted an Instagram story of herself at the gym with the caption, “Wh--- reporting for duty.”

Gillis was also mocked by Ania Magliano, the “Weekend Update” co-anchor over at SNL UK.
“Wearing the gym shorts will protect women from being upskirted, but it does make them vulnerable to something much worse,” Magliano said, showing a photo of Gillis delivering his SNL monologue.

Magliano, not restricted by the same network censors as the American SNL, roasted Gillis even further.
“Last week on SNL comedian Shane Gillis also caused controversy by dropping the F-bomb,” Magliano said. She told Gillis, “You’re not allowed to say that, you stupid f---ing c---.”
Gillis reportedly addressed the controversy in an Oct. 26 appearance at one of comedian Dave Chappelle’s shows in Austin.
According to one fan who attended the show, Gillis “seemed visibly shaken and humbled by the backlash.” The fan explained, “I wouldn’t say he explicitly apologized (he did not ever say ‘I’m sorry’), but he was clear that he understood why people were mad at him.”
The fan added, “If anything, I felt that he was trying to work through it on stage with us in real time.”
