My War on Cancer

BS Top - Somers Somers George Pimentel / Getty Images The cancer industry has failed dismally. In my new book, I’ve found doctors who, despite persecution, have stepped outside of the box and found another way to treat this horrible disease.

I am not a doctor; I am a dedicated and passionate layperson. I have written 19 books covering a wide range: the effects of alcoholism on the family, the effects of abuse on the individual, spirituality, the science of weight loss, the remarkable restoration of quality of life with bioidentical hormone replacement, and now, doctors who are curing cancer. I am simply a messenger; my books represent the opinions of hundreds of highly qualified Western doctors, scientists, and professionals.

Knockout: Doctors Who Are Curing Cancer is a wakeup call to the standard of care medical professionals. Knockout is also fuel for we the patients to question and have options.

According to The New York Times, “The War on Cancer is a dismal failure.” Let’s start there.

Look elsewhere. If the medical establishment is too arrogant to look into the great successes being made by alternative doctors, then you need to do this on your own.

In the last 55 years, the death rate from cancer has dropped only 5 percent. What other medical technology would we continue to utilize with such a dismal outcome? Yet after billions of dollars have been poured into research, there is still no cure. For instance, cases of heart disease fell 64 percent during that time.

I keep getting the arguments from, for instance, Dr. Otis Brawley, head of the American Cancer Society that “we are making great strides and we are extending life.”

Book Cover - Suzanne Somers Knockout Knockout: Interviews with Doctors Who Are Curing Cancer--And How to Prevent Getting It in the First Place. By Suzanne Somers Let’s examine that statement. Extending life... all right, let’s look at the great “strides” made toward pancreatic cancer. The drug Gemzar is touted as the panacea for this deadly disease. Gemzar has been compared to the previous "best" chemo for pancreatic cancer and the median survival improved from 4.2 months to only 5.7 months. About one extra month of life for this expensive drug? Not one single patient out of 126 in the study survived longer than 19 months. But Gemzar has been considered such an advance that the FDA approved it and now it’s a billion-dollar industry. It’s used all over the world. This is considered a major “advance”?

And coupled with taking this drug is an unbelievably horrible quality of life, resulting in the emaciated state we have come to know as "the end stage cancer patient." Prior to my appearance on Larry King recently, I called Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez (featured in my book, Knockout) and asked him if he could provide me with 10 names of patients with stage IV pancreatic cancer who had been on his nutritional protocol for longer than 10 years. A half hour later, he called me back with 10 names and phone numbers. I called them and they all report enjoying great quality of life and can’t say enough about their good quality of health and of Dr. Gonzalez himself. How many doctors in the oncology world would be able to provide us with this kind of substantiation?

Gerald Posner: Does Suzanne Somers Cause Cancer?

Really, can the medical oncology profession be proud of this “advance”?

In my book, Knockout: Drs. Gonzalez, Russell Blaylock, and Stanislaw Burzynski all said the following: We in the oncology world know that chemotherapy does nothing whatsoever for pancreatic cancer, which of course begs the question: “then why would it be given”? The answer is palliative… meaning, it makes the patient feel that something is being done, it makes the family feel that something is being done and when that patient dies, everyone feels they have done the best they could. From the point of view of the family and patient, this is true, because neither the family nor the patient knows the questions to ask, as in: “if I take this deadly chemo, and it brings me to my knees, will I be cured?” The answer is of course, no. Because, as The New York Times said, the war on cancer is a dismal failure.

1: Yes, follow the money. If you think these renegade doctors aren't making tons of money, you are totally naive. They are making as much money as the dreaded Big Pharma, and since it is all under the table we can't keep track of it. Since none of this is covered by insurance these people are having their bank accounts totally drained for treatments that have no proven value.

2: Ask to see their data. No, not the story of this person or that person who took the treatment and did well. Ask to see a breakdown of how many people on the same treatment did well vs how many had no benefit.Ask to see how long people continue to respond. Ask to see long-term survival data. Ask if there are any long-tern side effects. Ask HOW they determine if a person responded to treatment.

3: Go online and start looking around for people who were treated by the doctor but did not get well. Ask them about their experience.

4: If you seriously think these treatments worked, wouldn't Big Pharma be jumping all over them? The longer you keep someone alive, the more money you make off them, Please don't buy into the argument that these treatments are 'natural' so there's no way for BP to profit. Everyone knows there is no relationship between how much something costs to produce and how much it sells for. You can get Vitamin C by eating oranges. Have you seen how many Vitamin C supplements are available? If anything, the cheaper it is to produce, the bigger the profit margin. And let's not forget that supplement companies managed to get themselves far more lax regulations than the pharmaceutical companies have. While Big Pharma has to absolutely prove that a new drug is safe, supplement manufacturers basically can argue "Well, it hasn't hurt anybody yet." That's the 'Generally considered Safe' rule.

Remember, A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Brava to you Ms. Somers. When people hearing a "Cancer" diagnoses go into panic without asking questions and foresee another opinion. The answer is always chemo! Dark shots on the organs can be misdiagnose and aren't always Cancer. Doctor's make mistakes. The medical profession is all about what's not working, and know 10% about nutrients. Why?Telling patients to eat properly doesn't support their financial needs, surgery does. Foods does two things: It will heal you or destroy you. The food industry doesn't care about your health, but about how much money your going to spend. They market their foods to trigger your brain to buy it. We were all brainwashed to eating the American way and plentry of it. Want to be healthy? Eat what comes from the trees and its planet foods

Five close relatives had cancer; only one survived more than five years. The rest suffered terribly because current treatments could not save them. If I come down with cancer, I know I will not undergo chemo or radiation. Instead I will turn to alternative methods. Good for Suzanne Somers for shining a light on what's really going on. Because cancer runs in my family, I have studied these alternative therapies for many years and I know they work. For the naysayers, they need to do their own research--there IS plenty of data available.

Cancer is a harder nut to crack than this actress claims it to be. By the way, she is an actress. Nothing more.

Please read this before you buy into her BS: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hA60E_ueyggHVwotNK3YsFCyU IyQD9BEFOO00

Yes, Ms. Somers. People continue to die of diseases that typically hit people long after they've had the opportunity to make babies.

It's called biology.

Read a science book some time. Seriously.

It's a shame that a much-needed questioning of conventional cancer treatment and its effectiveness should come from such a poor writer. Please don't let this self-aggrandizing, gracelessly worded (and apparently unedited) diatribe turn you off to the idea that there are alternatives to chemotherapy that can be equally or perhaps more effective, minus the excruciating side effects. I appreciate Ms. Somers' passion but implore her to take a few writing courses, and attempt to ease up on the self-promotion if only for a moment.

She says to follow the money, and I have. All the way to her bank account. What a moron. This woman deserves to be jailed for the crap she's putting out there. I only pity the ignorant people who read it and think it's worth something. If they kill themselves buying into her nonsense, then we can call it natural selection and leave it at that.

If she was some well-recognized doctor saying all these things would you people be half as critical as you are now? If you came down with cancer and nothing was working for you would you say no to these treatments? People need to start having an open mind and realize that conventional medicine may not always be the best way to go. Learn about alternative treatments and realize that they may improve your quality of life .

Yes, if they had as little evidence of benefit as Ms. Somers and her 'brave maverick doctors" have.

That's the thing about good science: everyone is expected to play by the same rules. There's not one set for "conventional" medicine and a different set for "alternative" medicine.

If any of these treatments actually work, let the brave maverick doctors publish them in peer-reviewed journals so that other scientists can see the data, and try to replicate their results.

You know the other thing there is no cure for "not being able to fly"! Sure, BIG AEROSPACE will sell you a "cure" but I know people who needed to fly but still could not. The real cure will of course be natural or perhaps supernatural or even directly from the earth. like gravity is from the earth.

When our medical students are learning medicine at University many of those medical universities are subsidized by "Big Pharma" with a result of controlled medical education. When added with backroom politics by research departments and the FDA the result is a medical establishment being controlled by profit instead of patient needs. I, as many others, would like to see this broken for the benefit of everyone. I am not saying all medicine is bad but am saying we need to take a very good look at what is being done across the board and improve it. Suzanne Somers book is a step in the right direction because it raises questions about the status quo. Thanks Suzanne!
