Liz Cheney Condemns Reid, Slams ‘Liberal Elite’
It was Liz Cheney vs. everyone else on the This Week roundtable Sunday, at least on the topic of Harry Reid’s controversial comments on Obama. Cheney condemns the language he used, while the others, like fellow conservative George Will, question whether what he said didn’t have some truth to it. But she says, in her circles, people don’t talk like that, i.e. the backroom racism of the “liberal elite.”
Arnold Unsure of Return to Hollywood, Walls Come Crashing Down
The Governator has his hands full in California right now, but on Meet the Press, David Gregory wants to know if we should ever expect to eventually see Arnold Schwarzenegger return to the big screen. In what is clearly some sort of ominous sign from above, a picture falls from the wall behind him mid-sentence. Ironically, he’s talking about improving infrastructure. Maybe they should start with the Meet the Press set?
Is the Death of The Jay Leno Show Good News for Old Media?
Beyond the schadenfreude in which TV critics seem to be basking courtesy of the soon-to-be defunct Jay Leno Show, there are a few people actually trying to see what lessons can be learned. Sharon Waxman, appearing on CNN’s Reliable Sources, reminds us that at the time of its announcement, many people credited NBC for its innovative approach to prime-time programming, and its recognition that a new media landscape demands new types of content. But as David Zurawik also points out, many traditional TV formats whose deaths have been foretold over and over—i.e. network newscasts—still bring in real ratings and real money. Translation: Look for more Law & Order—with its union writers, actors, and traditional narrative storylines—at 10 p.m. on NBC.
Steele: Reid Should Resign Over Racist Comments
On Fox News Sunday, RNC Chairman Michael Steele says Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid should step down after a report of racial comments toward Barack Obama during the 2008 election, despite Reid’s apology and Obama’s acceptance. A few minutes later in the interview, however, Steele apologizes for some controversial comments of his own, but he says... that's a different story. Can you say “ Honest Injun?”
Tired of Underwear Bombers, Harry Reid, and Health Care? So’s Bob Schieffer
So folksy it defies ridicule, check out Bob Schieffer’s closing commentary from Face the Nation. No issue of domesitic or international political import here—just an old-fashioned lesson on why we should live more like dogs.
Lieberman ‘Furious’ Over New York Times Article
Sen. Joe Lieberman to White House officials: If you’ve got a problem with the military’s handling of the war effort, keep it to yourselves. In non-Harry Reid news, Lieberman was up in arms Sunday on State of the Union over a recent article in The New York Times, which cited anonymous administration officials who are upset over the pace of the surge of troops into Afghanistan. If the story is actually true, he says, “it's un-American,” and he thinks anyone who would leak information like that should be disciplined.
Romer Personally ‘Offended’ by Wall Street Bonuses
“For Heaven’s sakes,” Wall Street: Maybe you should at least think more about Christina Romer’s feelings the next time you hand out billions of dollars in bonuses to your employees. On State of the Union, one of Obama’s top economic advisers said the American people should be outraged by the bank bonuses that will be dished out over the next few weeks. She says it’s “ridiculous,” especially considering the actions the government had to take to bail them out this past year.
