Couture is far from dead. Fashion houses may be dropping like flies, but as the Fall 2010 collections presented in Paris proved this week, the courtiers still standing can put on quite the show.
There was a lot of drama: At Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld unleashed his garments around a golden lion; at Dior, John Galliano created dresses that looked like a field of blooming flowers; and at Jean Paul Gaultier, burlesque queen Dita Von Teese stripped down to her undergarments. Jessica Alba tweeted her way through Paris, and 17-year-old model Karlie Kloss dazzled at several of the week’s best shows. And to top it all off, retired courtier Valantino Garavani threw a lavish party at his expansive estate, Château de Wideville.
Though the week went off largely without a hitch, chaos still rippled backstage, where The Daily Beast’s Kevin Tachman was staked out with his camera.
