Prince Harry’s diplomatic skills are being tested today after pugnacious Jamaican PM Portia Simpson Miller gave a new interview to the BBC, calling for Britain to apologise for slavery.

“If Britain wishes to apologise, fine with us, no problem at all,” she said.

Pressed on the issue of ‘getting rid of the Queen’, she commented, “We came on a long journey, from slavery to adult suffrage to our independence. We are a nation where our maturity is now saying we should look to take full charge of our destiny.

“It’s not about getting rid of the Queen—who could get rid of the Queen? I admire the Queen, I am fond of her, but in terms of our history we have things to do.”

Harry and Ms Miler shook hands ont he tarmac when he arrived last night, and tonight he will join her for a state dinner.

Here’s hoping there’s no awkward silences.
