5. Beastie Boys/Muppet Mashup
Nothing screams “new” and “hip” like taking footage from The Muppet Show and editing it to a Beastie Boys song from the early ‘90s. The Swedish Chef, Animal, and Beaker stand in for the Beasties on their 1992 hit “So What’cha Want.” It’s hard to imagine the late MCA being upset at the thought of Beaker lip-syncing his part.
4. Shakespeare Goes ‘Girlhood’
Designer Iain Anderson captured his young daughter reciting Shakespeare’s “All the world’s a stage” soliloquy from As You Like It—one line at a time, over the course of 18 months. The end result is a small-scale version of Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, as we see the young girl get a little older, a little taller and a little more self-assured by the end.
3. Guess What? Your Skin is Really Terrible
The sun has the ability to damage your skin in ways you can’t see with the naked eye. This ultraviolet camera shows people what the sun is really doing to their skin. Freckles, lines and other blemishes that haven’t risen to the surface stick out on the UV cam.
If ever you need a reminder to bring sunblock with you, this is it.
2. How to Bungee Jump a Formula 1 Car
Probably best not to try this at home—even if you have the means to set it up. To promote the BBC’s long-running car porn Top Gear, helmeted show mascot “The Stig” rolls an F1 race car off of an elevated platform. Luckily, the car was attached to a bungee cord. Even more luckily, that bungee cord was short enough to keep it from crashing. It’s too soon to tell if this is the new hot extreme sport but it certainly hits the sweet spot of dangerous, funny, utterly impractical, yet weirdly impressive.
1. Conan Salutes Robin Williams
Much like the rest of us, Conan O’Brien was shocked and saddened by the loss of Robin Williams. Here, the late night host pays tribute to the man he considered “the best talk show guest in the world.”
