Justin Bieber figured out a novel way to deny drug allegations: rapping about how he “flies high like a magpie” in a new Instagram video.
Bieber, known for hit songs like “Sorry” and “Love Yourself,” posted a video of himself and a cigarette-smoking friend on Instagram, where they rap about “flying high.”
In the video, a shirtless Bieber holds an opened bag of popcorn, rapping the lyrics “I fly high like a fly guy/I fly high like a magpie/I go high like I’m that guy,” bopping to the beat as it plays in the background. At one point in the video, Bieber’s friend crouches down and leans toward the camera, ad-libbing, “Cause I’m that guy.”
Speculation about Bieber’s drug use first began last month when photos emerged online of the star with red eyes and severe dark circles around them. The accusations became even more widespread after videos showed the star acting strangely during his wife, Hailey Bieber’s pop-up event for her makeup and skincare brand, Rhode.
Bieber posted his “flying high” Instagram video only a day after his representative spoke to TMZ, vehemently denying the allegations, claiming the “recurring narrative” about Bieber using drugs is false and exhausting for the star to address continuously.
In a 2021 interview with GQ, Bieber opened up about dealing with drug addiction in the past, speaking on how substances became his way of coping with his fame.
“It was like I had all this success, and it was still like: I’m still sad, and I’m still in pain. And I still have these unresolved issues,” Bieber said. “And I thought all the success was going to make everything good. And so, for me, the drugs were a numbing agent to just continue to get through.”
Earlier in the year, Bieber uploaded photos of himself in a music studio on Instagram, sparking rumors that he plans to release a new album in 2025 after taking a three-year hiatus from the music industry.
