Earlier this year, Samantha Bee inducted Kellyanne Conway into her “Great Feminists in Feminism Herstory Hall of Lady Fame.” Tonight, it was Ivanka Trump’s turn—the “new sheriff in town,” according to one CNN analyst.
“Wrong! Sheriffs are elected to their jobs!” Bee said of President Donald Trump’s daughter and newest official adviser. In response to the idea that Ivanka will be her father’s “eyes and ears,” Bee joked that she will be “spending a lot of time staring at her own boobies.”
“Tonight, we honor the only actual high-end project Trump ever completed,” Bee said, noting that while some are hoping Ivanka Trump will be “your secret progressive buddy” in the White House, the reality is less optimistic. “Meeting with Leo DiCaprio is not a sign that you care about climate change; it’s a sign that you were a teenager in the ’90s,” the host said.
“At most, Ivanka has stopped one out of 24 appalling executive orders,” Bee said. “That’s only one more than Tiffany has stopped!”
“Look, I get it, people are comforted by the thought of a progressive feminist in the White House. To which I say, if you wanted that, you should have voted for it,” she continued, putting Hillary Clinton’s photo on the screen behind her.
In response to a campaign ad in which Ivanka said the “most important job” for a woman is being a mother, Bee said, “You know what another important job is? Working in the White House! Because when you work there, people need you to know what the fuck you’re doing when you float your $500 billion childcare plan.”
