The Golden Globes are boozy, the Oscars rife with anxiety—but at the Directors Guild Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards, both of which took place this weekend, Hollywood stars oh-so-kindly honored each other.

The King’s Speech gained Oscar momentum this weekend, picking up the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast at the SAGs on Sunday, and director Tom Hooper won for Directorial Achievement at the DGAs. Best Ensemble Cast at the SAGs went to Modern Family, Natalie Portman took home the prize for Best Actress for her performance in Black Swan, and Alec Baldwin thanked the Teamsters for driving him to work every day when he accepted his trophy for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for 30 Rock. Highlight of the night: Beloved Betty White beat out powerhouse Tina Fey to take home the award for Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series. “They had to get the old broad up the stairs, and that’s not easy!” the Hot in Cleveland star joked when she made it to the microphone.
At the Screen Actors Guild Awards, boldfaced names somehow still seemed in awe of their day jobs. Colin Firth, who won for The King’s Speech, talked about waving his SAG card around. “Growing up in England, it’s not something you expect to see. I used to flash it around hoping it would get me female attention, and into nightclubs and top-level government departments—and it didn’t.” He seems to do OK now.
