“Wow,” Trevor Noah said Tuesday night, taping The Daily Show moments after news broke that President Donald Trump had fired his FBI Director James Comey. “You can’t just fire the FBI director. If he’s gone, who’s going to investigate Russia’s ties to — oh….”

Reflecting back on his early analogy between Trump and African dictators, the host said, “Right now, even Africans are watching this going, ‘Yo, yo, yo, yo, Donald Trump does not fuck around!’”

Noah promised more coverage of the “blockbuster” story on the next night’s show, but he could not wait to share with viewers the reason why the Trump administration has given for letting Comey go.

“There’s no other way to describe it, it’s a masterstroke,” Noah said. Reading from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s memo to the president, he said, “I cannot defend the Director’s handling of the conclusion of the investigation into Secretary Clinton’s emails.”

“This is insane,” he added. “Do you understand the excuse Trump is giving? Trump is basically saying he’s doing this because of what Comey did to Hillary. That is the most gangsta excuse I’ve ever heard.”

Noah imagined Trump saying, “I am doing this to clear my good friend, Crooked Hillary, because James Comey, folks, Comey clearly just wanted to lock her up, lock her up, lock her up.”
