‘The Wizard of Oz,’ ‘Star Wars,’ and More in Mashup of ‘The Simpsons’ Seasons 1–10
From ‘Ben Hur’ and ‘Casablanca’ to ‘E.T.’ and ‘Pulp Fiction,’ see them Simpson-ized. Victoria Kezra reports.
The folks at Next Movie (via Gawker) must have toiled for days to bring us this excellent and fairly comprehensive mashup of the movie references in The Simpsons, Seasons 1–10. The two videos, one for Seasons 1–5 and the other for Seasons 6–10 clock in at almost 40 minutes, but the nostalgia trip is well worth the investment.
A watch of both videos all the way through reveals that the writers of The Simpsons had a few favorite movies and directors. Stanley Kubrick films crop up a numbers of times, from 2001: A Space Odyssey to A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, Full Metal Jacket, and even the Shin- er, The Shinning (Don’t want to get sued). Some other movies that get multiple mentions are Wizard of Oz, North by Northwest, Gone With the Wind, Planet of the Apes, and Star Wars. Next Movie might have missed one though, no mention of the entire episode homage to Run Lola Run.
Will they do a video for the later seasons? Who knows, though many choose to deny the existence of those. Either way, it’s a great project with a very cool result.
