Medical use of marijuana has been considered kosher since 2013, but up until now, Jews celebrating Passover were required to give up the drug during the holiday. Weed was considered to be a member of the kitniyot, a group of food items including leavened bread, that are prohibited during the holiday. However this week, pot’s forbidden status was repealed after Rabbi Chaim Kenievsky considered the drug’s medical benefits. In the video above the prominent rabbi gives his blessing to medicinal users after getting a whiff of cannabis’ “healing” smell.
